Kia Forte Koup is a compact coupe and the first coupe from Kia Motors in America, that was unveiled in production form at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. The car was originally unveiled as a concept car as the Kia Koup on 20 March 2008 at the New York International Auto Show. The Forte Koup is badged as the Kia Cerato Koup in Australia and New Zealand, and is called the Kia Shuma in China.
Kia has stated that the Forte Koup would be aimed at driving enthusiasts. The concept sports a twin screw turbocharged version of the 2.0 liter Theta II four cylinder engine. The production version omitted the turbocharger. With direct injection, the normally aspirated motor puts out an 144 lb-ft. of torque at 6,200 rpm and 156 horsepower (116 kW).
The production version features both 2.0L and 2.4L four-cylinder engines, and comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. Optional in the top trim level is a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
The Koup is the basis for the new Kia Forte sedan, which made its debut at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. Both coupe and sedan production models became available as of late 2009.
